The Art of Jung SuWon

Welcome to the New Year 2017. This is a time where everybody begins to think about their plans and goals for this year. It is also a time to reflect on the previous year to see what goals were accomplished. Did I achieve the goals I set out to achieve? Did I improve on the different areas I wanted to improve?

At Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy, we began the new year with a kick-off class for 2017. All of the students of all ages and belt ranks gathered to practice and work out together. It was a class of unity and working together. Overall, it was a high energy class with positivity surrounding the training floor.

Everyone had the opportunity to regain their flexibility and wake up different muscles of the body that were dormant during the holiday break. School will be back in session and the schedule will…

In Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim‘s book 7 Steps to Inner Power she writes about the 5 Principals of Mental Conduct.

Principal 2 is “Learn From Your Mistakes”.  In this section of 7 Steps to Inner Power Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim writes:

“Mistakes are also essential to your progress. The minute you decide to achieve a goal that’s important to you, you will make mistakes. How did we humans get the idea that to be perfect we couldn’t make mistakes? Never making a mistake does not make us perfect. Never repeating a mistake (after we learn from it) is as perfect as we need to be.”

For most of my life I would try and cover up my mistakes, I was afraid of them.  After reading the above I changed my perspective on making mistakes.  This new way of thinking reduced stress and increased by energy level.

Special Training under Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim

After several trans-continental flights I am finally settled back in to “regular” schedules.  This means, back in Jung Suwon classes, and now that Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim is finally back from her 2 1/2 month stay in Korea, classes have been rocking!

Here is me, back at Jung Suwon, in action:

And here, I get to work with our youngest Jung Suwon warrior, who is 3 proud years old!  He is full of energy and spunk, and doesn’t know fear.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim allows kids to train at a very early age, because they are able to learn and absorb at a much faster rate, regardless of how they act and regardless of their physical coordination.

Just take a look at how great Joshi does:

Anti-Bullying Youtube

In this Youtube video, watch how 1 Girl fights off 3 bullies.  They attack her as a group, individually, with a knife and sticks. She is not afraid of them. She is a Jung SuWon warrior who has learned how to focus and accomplish her goals.

What is Jung SuWon?

Jung SuWon, a martial art that includes spiritual principles and practices that can lay the foundation of your inner power and physical strength, and that can develop your whole being. Thus, its mental and spiritual aspects are not separate from its physical form, and never could be.

This martial art is essentially the art of living life itself. This is the true “way” of the martial arts warrior– not just overcoming in combat, but a complete overcoming in every aspect of our daily living. When you learn this art, there will be no obstacle you cannot overcome.

Principal 2 is “Learn From Your Mistakes”. One part that I find especially interesting is:

“Here’s the fact about mistakes. They are part of a natural feedback system in learning a task or accomplishing a goal. That’s all.”

The above sentence reminds me that its ok to make mistakes.  I dont need to get down on myself when I make a mistake, I just need to learn from it and move on.

Words of Wisdom

Here is an excerpt from my book, The Silent Master: Awakening the Power Within:

The basic rule is this: whatever you concentrate on and visualize, you propel into manifestation. As we said, your thoughts are creative energy. Concentration and visualization are ways of using this consciousness to focus on and energize a desired goal.

Principal 1 is “Conquer Your Own Weaknesses and Fears Rather then Others”. One part that I find especially interesting is:

“ look clinically at your strengths and weaknesses. You don’t need to make value judgments on yourself.”

The above sentence reminds me to take a Doctor approach to evaluating my strengths and weakness.  A doctor would not make personal judgments as they diagnose their patient.  Their focus is to cure the patient.  I need to maintain that same focus and not get caught up in the emotion of what I’m doing.

“What’s important now is to understand that weaknesses are not part of your original self.”

Facing weaknesses is not an easy thing to do.  In fact it can be scary.   The sentence out of 7 Steps to Inner Power reminds me that my weaknesses are not truly part of me and all I need to do is focus on being my true self  to overcome my weaknesses.
